Russia is known for its high quality of education for everybody. But it had not always been the same for all women. The history of female education dates from 11th century when Anna Vsevolodovna, a sister of a Grand Prince of Kievan Rus formed the first female college in Andreevsky monastery in Kiev. Since that time the education became important in aristocracy, but in countryside people did not care about having education. From 17th to 19th century the women’s education was determined only by social class. Low class people did not have opportunity to be educated. When in 1917 the Socialist Revolution has displaced Tsar and the socialism took the power, all people started to have the same rights for education. Actually, high school became an obligation for everybody. Universities became free. But the quantity of women studying at universities was not as much as quantity of men. People could study whatever they wanted without any payment, and by finishing their degree, they were assured with job. When women realized that the education was really important for their life quality, the number of women studying at the university started to increase. In 1897- 1991 the Perestroika (it means “restructuring” of the Soviet political and economic system) started its development. Universities got private, but high schools were still public. However, people already had the idea of education as important point of their lives. As the time was passing, the level of education was higher and higher. Nowadays, all the people study no mattering if you are woman or man. After many years of development, Russian education is now in a very high level being known all over the world.
